The first prototype of the ASBC was presented at
the ECO-92 (Summit) eco-technology show in Rio de Janeiro city in
1992. Encouraged by this show, the development team continued its
research, seeking more efficiency and low-cost materials to make it
accessible to low-income families.
In 2001 the definitive ASBC was shown to the
public and received considerable interest due to its low cost and
the benefits provided in reducing residential electric energy
consumption. Installations in many and diverse Brazilian homes
followed. In the same year the development team, recognizing the
social and ecological benefits deriving from the ASBC, founded the
NGO called Sociedade de Sol (SoSol).
The SoSol structure and human resources
fluctuates considerably, considering that for the most part the
members volunteer their services for varying periods. The permanent
members are a President, a Vice-president, the founder Augustin (who
today concentrates on the society's technical communication), a
technical teacher, a secretary, and voluntary monitors (teachers/facilitators)
located in many Brazilian cities.
